Luas Cross City Project
By Michael Yallop
A notable project which we were pleased to be involved in was the Luas cross city project. At the time it was one of the largest projects which was carried out across the entire city centre.
Within this project, there were a number of trees which need to be integrated into the design so that they could be retained for the future. Along with this, new plantations of trees had to be integrated into the track lines. A method used many European countries of creating planting pits with stone and soil was used to reduce root damage to concrete and track infrastructure. This was a very innovative method which could be used in many different scenarios.
My role here involved supervising the installation to ensure a suitable planting area was created. Time has moved on since the trees were planted and they have flourished in this environment creating habitat and screening from the track way. This is something which we would be able to advise on and guide for future projects.
